3. Relax at Bagni Regina Giovanna
Escape the crowds at this natural swimming spot, surrounded by the ruins of a 1st-century Roman villa. It’s a favourite among locals, offering crystal-clear water and peaceful surroundings. Free to visit, it’s one of the best spots for a swim. Read my guide on how to get to Bagni Regina Giovanna here.
4. Visit the Amalfi Coast and Positano by Boat
Take a day trip from Sorrento to the picturesque towns of Positano and Amalfi. Wander through Positano’s narrow streets lined with colourful houses and boutique shops, or relax on its famous pebble beach. In Amalfi, visit the historic cathedral and enjoy the stunning coastal views. Both towns offer a perfect escape with charming cafes, vibrant culture, and breathtaking scenery. You can take the public ferry but during peak season these can be crowded and stressful.
Ferry services from Sorrento to Positano and Amalfi are primarily seasonal, operating from April to October. During this period, multiple daily departures are available, with ticket prices varying based on the operator and booking specifics.
Ticket Prices: Generally range from €16 to €24 for a one-way trip. Duration: Approximately 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the ferry type. You can book your tickets using omio here.
Ticket Prices: Typically start from around €9, with average prices around €14 for a one-way journey. Duration: Approximately 35 to 50 minutes. You can book your tickets using omio here.
I booked a private tour using GetYourGuide and the price was very similar to catching a public ferry but the stress was a lot lower so I highly recommend this tour. If you want a smaller group tour and a more luxurious feel I would book this small group tour.
5. Day Trip to Pompeii and Herculaneum
Both ancient cities were buried in ash after Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 CE. While Pompeii is the more famous site, Herculaneum is better preserved, offering a quieter experience. You can reach Pompeii by train in 35 minutes for around 3 EUR from Sorrento. Entrance fees are 19 EUR for Pompeii and 13 EUR for Herculaneum. Plan to spend at least half a day exploring the ruins of these ancient cities. If you want a guided tour that includes transport and lunch then I recommend this tour here. You get coach transfers to and from Sorrento and it includes lunch at a local winery.
6. Stroll Through the Old Town
Wander the charming streets of Sorrento’s Old Town, where you’ll find colourful shops selling local limoncello, handmade ceramics, and leather goods. Don’t miss the Piazza Tasso, a bustling square with restaurants and cafés, perfect for people-watching. The Old Town is a great place to explore on foot, and it’s free to roam.
7. Hike the Sentiero degli Dei (Path of the Gods)
For breathtaking coastal views, hike the Sentiero degli Dei, a scenic path that stretches from Agerola to Positano. The hike takes around 4-5 hours and offers some of the most spectacular views of the Amalfi Coast. You can reach Agerola by bus from Sorrento, and the hike itself is free.
8. Explore the Cloister of San Francesco
